Joseph Leppek is a tenor from Novi, Michigan...

 

...who most recently starred as Tony in The Glimmerglass Festival’s new production of West Side Story.  In the 2018-19 season he was a resident tenor artist with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City and with the company, performed Glad Hand in West Side Story and sang in the Exploration Series concerts throughout the year, including "High Fidelity Opera" and "Mack the Knife is the Man I Love". In 2019-20, Joseph returns as the resident tenor artist with Lyric Opera of Kansas City and will perform the roles of Pedrillo in Abduction from the Seraglio, Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor and Delbert Grady in The Shining.

He has performed professionally in productions and concerts across the United States, including The Summer King (Mariachi 1) at Michigan Opera Theatre, the world premiere of It’s A Wonderful Life! (Mr. Martini) at the Houston Grand Opera, and The Siege of Calais (Giachomo de Wisants) as a young artist with The Glimmerglass Festival. As a studio artist with Opera Saratoga, he performed in Il Postino (The Priest).

Joseph is a two-time district winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council competition, as well as taking 2nd place at the William C. Byrd vocal competition. Joseph received his master’s degree in Voice Performance and Opera from the prestigious Rice University under the tutelage of the late Barbara Clark. At Rice, he was seen as Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Voice Performance from DePauw University where he studied with Caroline Smith.

As a concert artist he has sung with the Michigan Philharmonic, the Rochester Symphony Orchestra, and Houston Youth Symphony and Houston Masterworks Chorale. He was also a soloist and chorister with the Houston Bach Society from 2015-2017.
